School year 2018/2019 sees the arrival of the new eighth grade school exam. How much do you know about it? Which parts are likely to be the most challenging to prepare for? What are some good tricks and tips to pass on to our learners to ensure the maximum chance of success? What materials can we use? Answers to all these questions and more will be covered in this highly interactive session aimed at providing some practical and enjoyable ways of preparing our learners for the new challenge. This session will focus on the receptive skills of reading and listening, along with use of English, and will showcase material taken from the new Pearson Course English Class along with the new Repetytorium Ósmoklasisty.

Dr Piotr Steinbrich: zajmuje się nauczaniem języka angielskiego od ponad 10 lat. Kształci studentów Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego oraz nauczycieli w ramach programów organizowanych przez INSETT i British Council. Obecnie współpracuje z wydawnictwem Pearson, prowadząc sesje szkoleniowe w Polsce i Europie. Publikuje artykuły naukowe dotyczące językoznawstwa stosowanego oraz praktyczne materiały dydaktyczne.

Two of the sections contained in the new 8^th grade exam concern productive skills and focus on real world communication in the form of writing and use of language functions. What issues do your learners have in these areas? How can we support them and develop the skills ready for the exam? Does writing have to be left for homework, or does it have a place in the classroom along with speaking? This session will provide some highly practical ideas to help learners to effectively develop the various vital skills associated with these areas – and to have some fun at the same time. The session will be illustrated with further examples taken from the new Pearson Course English Class along with the new Repetytorium Ósmoklasisty.
