How to teach an engaging online lesson?

The methodology we use to teach online is similar to a traditional face-to-face lesson. You just need to adapt your lesson to take into account the digital tools you have available.

  • tailoring next lesson to target students’ weak areas

Equivalent of warm-up and revision in face-to-face lesson

  • engaging students with lesson content from the very first minute
  • doing retrieval practice based on common error report from MyEnglishLab
  • creating more personalised learning experience for students

Equivalent of presentation and practice in face-to-face lesson

  • using Presentation Tool and sharing screen with students
  • avoiding lengthy teacher talking time
  • varying the pace of the lesson and type of activities
  • keeping students as active as possible
  • giving students enough time to practise new language (using peer teaching if possible)
  • giving students enough time to think of an answer before nominating a student to respond
  • using the whiteboard to give whole class feedback and the chat box to give personalised feedback to individual learners directly
